August To Do List

Over the almost-4 years in our home we’ve made a lot of progress but our house has also started to see some normal wear and tear. We decided to put together a punch list for August and dedicate the month to some of those little things that have sat on our to-do list for a while. You’ll catch us taking care of some home and yard maintenance (good bye weeds), finishing small projects that we have all the materials for but haven’t completed yet, and purging some items that have become clutter.

Home Maintenance

  • Patch cracks in walls – With seasonal temperature changes, new build settling and general wear our walls have some stains that are in need of repair. I’ll DIY the repair on cracks in our upstairs hall ceiling, dinning room corner, and nursery wall, but will be trying to hire out a more intensive repair in our basement from a leak in our dishwasher. (I know my limits.)
  • Reinstall toilet paper holders – Our builder didn’t do the best job installing the toilet paper holders in our bathrooms so we’ll be removing them, patching the drywall, and reinstalling them with heavier duty anchors that will (fingers crossed) hold them into the wall with daily use.

Unfinished Projects

  • Paint & Install deck lights – I purchased these lights to go along our deck in December and haven’t installed them yet. Since most of our lighting and hardware is black or gold/brass I’ll be painting them black first, then installing along the base of our deck with this tape.
  • Refresh mulch in yard – In the spring I bought a bunch of mulch on sale and we used a couple of bags, but most of it has been sitting in a corner of the yard since. I’ll be weeding our mulched areas and distributing this mulch around the yard.
  • Apply mulch glue to mulch and rock mulch areas – With three dogs and a baby our mulch is constantly getting tracked inside making our house messier, and our rock mulch is always getting moved into our pathways I’ve seen several home-influencers have success with this mulch glue so I’ll be loading up a sprayer and giving it a try.

Spring Summer Cleaning

  • Sell old car top carrier/cargo box – With a new baby we upgraded our cargo box that sits on top of our car to have more space for roadtrips. We still have our old one but we don’t have a need for it or storage space for it any more so we’ll be listing it on Facebook Marketplace so it can go to it’s next home.
  • Sell old suitcases – We have a couple of old suitcases that don’t get used and are just collecting dust, so those will be going on to their next home via Facebook Marketplace as well.
  • List old clothes on Poshmark – Between moving to a fully remote job and being a new mom my wardrobe has changed quite a bit. Everything I’ve weeded out will get listed on Poshmark.
  • Sell broken gold/silver jewelry – I’ve got some broken necklaces and other pieces of jewelry that wouldn’t be worth repairing sitting in my jewelry box. These will be mailed off to a company that buys metal and pays you for it.
